Class Descripton
Kokedama is a form of Japanese garden art that is centuries old and involves creating the moss/soil ball equivalent of a terrarium. It literally translates from “koke” meaning moss and “dama” meaning ball. During class we will take the roots of our plants, cover them in a specialized handmade clay and soil mud mixture, and then coat it with soft green moss. We will also experiment with flat tabletop displays and string suspended designs. While designing your own kokedama, you will learn about the best types of plants to use, the type of soil best suited to these plants, and care tips to maximize the exposed root system and encourage overall sustainability.
