Leslie Gaworecki is an abstract artist based in Houston, Texas. She went to school for art (photography), but always wanted to be a painter. When a teacher at Lucky Star Art Camp told her simply: “so BE a painter,” she finally listened. Leslie taught herself to paint and now delights in teaching others.
Led by curiosity and a little luck, Leslie began showing paintings in Houston in 2016. Mostly acrylic with some mixed media, Leslie’s painting practice is driven by color and the surprises that happen when she releases expectation. Her most recent work explores longing for place – especially places from the past and places called “home.”
Leslie’s work is collected internationally and has been purchased for public spaces. This year she was commissioned to create new work for Houston’s Intercontinental Airport. Leslie is co-creator of “Color:Story”, a biennial collaborative art and poetry exhibition that brings together artists of both disciplines from Houston and around the world.
Leslie lives with her husband and four sons who inspire her mark-making and her tendency toward whimsy.
