Beekeeping 101

Have you ever thought about becoming a beekeeper? In addition to having fresh, super–local honey, most beekeepers have an agricultural exemption on their property taxes. Keeping bees is also good for the environment! If you are interested in getting bees or if you just want to learn more about bees and beekeeping, then this extra is for you! I have been a beekeeper for 6 years. In this class, I will teach you about the life cycle of bees. I will show you what beekeeping equipment you will need if you decide to keep bees and we will talk about how to actually get bees. You can even try on a beekeeping suit and learn to light a smoker! I will also tell you how to find local instruction if you want to continue learning about bees. Lastly, I will provide you with a handout to help you increase biodiversity on your property/in your yard so that you are helping the bees, even if you don’t become a beekeeper!
