Class Descripton
In this class, students will learn a ceramic glazing technique inspired by cloissone metalworking. In cloissone, copper wire designs are filled with enamel that melts into the shape. We will be drawing using lines of wax rather than metal, and brushing in liquid glaze, then kiln firing the tiles.
Students can draw or trace designs from my templates or their imaginations onto 6″ ceramic bisque tiles. I will demonstrate how to lay wax on the lines, and deside which glaze colors to fill the spaces with. Students will receive their fired tiles the following day, and can add a square of felt to the bottom side, for use as a trivet or coaster. Or you can even mount these tiles onto a wall or tray in the traditional way!
