Class Descripton
Suminagashi translates to “floating ink” which is exactly what this art process entails. In this class, we will be learning the art of suminagashi, floating sumi ink on water creating beautiful, elegant patterns, and printing them on paper and fabric. While this process is similar to water marbling we will be using sumi ink instead of acrylic paints, resulting in softer colors and a more simple design pattern. This workshop will leave you feeling relaxed and happy as the process is extremely meditative and is heavily influenced by the natural flow and ripple of water. We will have plenty of time to play with the medium and print several sheets of mulberry paper that can then be used in personal art projects, collaging, scrapbooking, bookbinding, and more. Each participant will also get to print 2 tea towels with instructions on how to use your uniquely printed towel as reusable gift wrap also known as furoshiki.
