Class Descripton
There is something extra special about filling the pages of a book you made yourself.
In Bind Your Own Sketchbook, Janette will introduce you to the art of hand bookbinding as you create a one-of-a-kind sketchbook or journal using the traditional Coptic stitch.
You’ll choose from a curated selection of decorative papers, book cloth and thread to create a book that feels completely your own. Then you’ll fold and assemble your signatures, cover your book boards, measure and punch your binding holes and stitch the entire book together by hand.
One of the most beautiful features of Coptic binding is its exposed decorative spine and its ability to open completely flat, making the finished book perfect for sketching, journaling, collage or mixed media.
You’ll leave class with a completely finished hand-bound book, ready to fill with whatever comes next.
Supply Fee Includes
- Interior paper, pre-cut book board, decorative papers and book cloth, bookbinding thread in a variety of colors, bookbinding needle, bone folders, glue and shared bookbinding tools including awls, X-Acto knives and self-healing cutting mats.
Supplies to Bring from Home
- Nothing required! Campers are welcome to bring their own scissors if they have a pair they prefer working with.
