One of my biggest challenges as an artist is simply getting started. I’ve been making art since childhood, but the more I began to value it, the more fear, comparison, and imposter syndrome crept in. To push past that, I went back to my roots and asked myself: What drew me here in the first place? The answer was simple—my love of creating art just for the joy of it.
When I was younger, I relied on reference. I drew and painted what I saw. As an adult, I’ve learned that reference doesn’t have to hold me back—it can act as a guide, not a set of rules. You don’t have to get lost in the details; you can let reference inspire you while leaving room for your own interpretation.
That’s exactly what this class is about. We’ll start small—painting tiny landscapes step by step using reference photos. I’ll share my process, show you how and when I “break the rules,” and guide you from feeling daunted to feeling free. Together, we’ll use small pieces of wood, acrylic paint, and references I provide. You’ll complete your first mini painting with me, then have the opportunity to create another with your own reference.
The goal is to keep the process fun and approachable, so you leave with not just a tiny finished artwork, but also a big boost of confidence and a fresh, playful approach to painting landscapes.
