Class Descripton

In this expressive painting & drawing class, we will begin with mark making exercises to get you creating outside the box. Through various guided activities, we will practice letting go of the outcome. Learn to be expressive with your strokes. Have fun playing with color! Experiment and let your intuition guide your artistic choices as we create abstract paintings on wood in a safe, encouraging environment. All skill levels can benefit and enjoy this fun class in which you have permission to PLAY!

Please note:

I work and teach very organically, so be prepared to go with the flow!

My classes focus on process. While you may walk away with a piece of art ready to hang on your wall, you may also walk away with a few pieces started & ready to inspire many more hours of creating.

SPECIFIC TECHNIQUES TO BE TAUGHT:

In my class you can expect to:

paint a lot

paint fast

create layers

make large brushstrokes

use text

get messy

use your other hand

doodle/ scribble

experiment with color

get yourself to:

*loosen up

*let go

*get out of your comfort zone

*have fun

Materials to Bring

I encourage students to bring what they have. Students will need:

A couple brushes of various sizes
Any mark makers you like : can be : markers, watercolor crayons, colored pencils, paint pens Please bring what you have, there will be sharing. If you need to purchase, here is a link to my fav supplies: https://www.amazon.com/shop/jennifermercede
Cheap medium sized sketchbook (A handful of computer paper will work just as well.)
Painting clothes or smock
A scraping tool or two such as an old credit card, a palette knife, toothpick, shish-kabob stick, or a stick from outside
A rag or towel
Optional : Spray bottle Hair dryer Any other favorite artistic tools you like to play with or are curious about, including any collage fodder, stencils, etc. Additional canvas or panel, can be paintings you've already started If you like to paint on an easel feel free to bring one.
I encourage sharing materials in my class. I will be bringing some of mine to share. While it is definitely not expected, it is fun to provide the opportunity for each other to try something new. You might just discover your new favorite tool!
