Slip into the quiet magic of clay and surface design in this hands-on exploration of printed ceramics. In Printing on Porcelain, participants will work with silky, pre-rolled porcelain slabs, transforming them into one-of-a-kind functional pieces through layered imagery and thoughtful composition.
Using both stamping and screen printing techniques with richly pigmented Amaco inks, you’ll experiment with pattern, rhythm, and repetition—building visual depth directly into the clay. Along the way, we’ll touch on approachable color theory, guiding you in mixing a cohesive, personalized palette that elevates your design. Choose from a curated selection Texas/Nature themed image stencils for screen printing, and also create your own 5 x 7 printing plate using a simple ballpoint pen on stryofoam technique (bring a pre-printed image on copy paper for easy transfer, or freehand sketch if you feel brave!).
Once your surface is complete, you’ll shape your slab into a platter or bowl by slumping it over a form of your choice—merging structure with spontaneity. Students can each create up to 6 smaller size bowls/dishes for firing.
Pieces will be food-safe clear glazed, kiln-fired and ready for pickup Sunday morning, becoming lasting keepsakes of your creative experience.
