What is it?
Join me and your fellow campers for a hands-on floral workshop inspired by ikebana, the Japanese art of arranging flowers with intention, balance, and restraint. We’ll slow things down, embrace a little negative space, and discover how a few thoughtfully placed stems can make a big statement. You’ll also create your own clay flower frog and trinket dish, turning a simple floral tool into a one-of-a-kind piece of art.
What will you learn?
The basic principles and inspiration behind ikebana.
How to work with balance, proportion, movement, and negative space.
How to choose and place stems with intention—less really can be more!
How to sculpt your own clay flower frog and trinket dish to create future arrangements.
What will you create?
An ikebana-inspired arrangement using a traditional metal floral frog and dish.
A handmade clay floral frog.
A handmade clay trinket dish.
Kit Fee Includes
- Your kit includes a curated selection of fresh and dried flowers, branches, greenery, and other natural elements for creating your ikebana-inspired arrangement, along with a vessel and traditional frog. You’ll also receive clay and materials to sculpt and finish your own flower frog and dish.
Materials to Bring from Home
- Your kit includes everything you need, but you are welcome to bring a few favorite flowers, branches, grasses, seed pods, or interesting bits gathered from your garden or nature walks. Think unusual shapes, beautiful lines, and unexpected textures rather than big bunches of blooms. You may also bring a favorite small vessel or shallow bowl if you have one you’d like to experiment with.
